Bumblebees!
Who doesn’t like bumblebees? Not only are they cute looking and easy to recognize with their colourful furry coat, they also have an intriguing social system and they provide important ecological services as pollinators of both crops and wild flowers. In the world there are about 300 different bumblebee species, and 40 of them can be found in Sweden. Bumblebees are, however, undergoing a widespread decline, most likely caused by destruction of flower-rich habitats by the recent years intensification of agriculture. In order to protect these fascinating creatures we have to learn more about them. In my thesis project I’ve done my best to contribute with more knowledge about bumblebees.
