Bumblebees play an important role as pollinators of both wild-flowers and crops. For bumblebees to survive and maintain their services, undisturbed, flower-rich places as e.g. grasslands are crucial. Places like these have become rare in Western Europe due to increasing agricultural practices, with a decline in bumblebee species richness as a consequence. At least some plant species rely on bumblebees as pollinators and a declining number of bumblebees may affect other organisms as well. This make them valuable as an indicator species. In my thesis, bumblebees were monitored in three landscapes with different land-use. The study showed the importance of a landscape that contain a mix of grasslands, fields and forests.
