Summer student: Marc Ruel’s lab, Ottawa Heart Institute, Ottawa University, Canada.

Three months training: Rodent surgery for inducing myocardial infarction (MI model), Cell Isolation from rat bone marrow, Cell Culture, Angiogenesis Assay

2008 – 2010

Master Program: Molecular Genetics and Physiology ; Linköping University; Sweden.

The program was focused on Eukaryotic molecular biology, genetics and physiology with the aim of broadening students’ knowledge of biogenetic systems.

Master thesis (1 year: 60cr): Validation of transgenic mouse line with knock down of mGluR5 selectively in dopamine D1 receptor expressing neurons.

Techniques learned during the program and the thesis: Molecular Biology/Genetics techniques such as: Transgenic Techniques, Real-Time PCR, PCR, RNA and DNA purification, Recombination and Restriction enzymes, Gene Expression Analysis, ELISA, Western Blotting, Functional Genomics, Mouse Handling and Perfusion, Immunohistochemistry (IHC, IFC; Human/mouse brain sections, Chicken aorta tissue), Familiar with Cre-LoxP Technique.

Research Engineer: May Giriffith’lab, IGEN, Linköping University, Sweden

IHC/IFC (cryostat), EPCs Isolation (from peripheral blood), Cell Culture, and Flow Cytometry EPC count, Organizing Lab Meetings and some ordering precuts.

Research stipend: David Engblom’s lab, IKE, Linköping University, Sweden.

One year sstipend for preparatory research courses from Linköping University.

Main responsibilities: IHC on mouse brain sections (vibrotom), some molecular biology/genetics techniques, and some microsurgeries. Working both independently and collaborating with other members of our group.

I worked as a medical doctor. This job developed my theoretical and practical skills in medicine, helped me to gain more comprehensive insight towards the pathophysiological processes of the body.

During these years I improved my abilities in interacting with different people, handling stressful and high pressure situations, enhancing my management skills, which all provide me, distinguishes for my future research career.
