The basal species was most sensitive to change in its attributes due to captivity when reintroduced, this because of the direct interspecific competition built in to the model.

The interspecific competition is the competition between different species on the same trophic level.

This is clear in figure 1 where the reintroduction success (y-axis) is correlated to how much change there is in the reintroduced species. The reintroduction success declines as the number of species (x-axis) increases (i.e. the interspecific competition increases for the reintroduced species)
