Brood patch modification

Percentage score of brood patch modification of 8 successful breeders during the breeding cycle

Significant development of the brood patch occurs during the mid-incubation period and complete development is observed at the time of hatching. A near significant value was observed for the regression of the brood patch (p=0.053) during the chick rearing phase.

Development and regression of the individual traits

Development and regression of the individual traits for 8 successful breeders

The degree of de-feathering is higher at the start of incubation compared to vascularization, edema and contour feathers.

Corticosterone levels

Stress levels during natural incubation while incubating (N=8) and rearing chicks (N=7)

No significance in stress levels during incubating and chick rearing stages

Prolactin levels

Unfortunately, we are unable to show the prolactin levels here because the chicken prolactin ELISA kits we tested were unable to detect the prolactin in plasma
