Studbook analysis

Based on the studbook analysis, only 26 females have been successful in producing kits between1973-2013. Within this period of time, 132 females are represented in the studbook but only 43 out of them reached the reproductive age of two years. The litters were born in 14 different zoos, in Europe and in Russia.

The inbreeding coefficient of the kits was correlated against the number of kits in each litter which showed that there was no significance for reduced litter size correlated to increased inbreeding coefficient.  Still the overall inbreeding is high, 0.3986, as is the mean kinship, 0.3718, and the genetic diversity is low, 0.6282.
