The results of the present study suggest that mammalian blood odors, both conspecific and heterospecific as well as from both predator and non-predator species, and the blood odor component (trans-4,5-epoxy-(E)-2-decenal) elicit avoidance behaviors in mice and play a vital role in odor signaling and predator-prey interactions.
