Pan-trapping is a commonly used method to collect pollinating insects. The pan-traps consist of liquid-filled pans in colours attractive to pollinators. Studies have shown that the amount of flowers surrounding the pan-traps may affect the catches. If you use pan-traps to survey the number of pollinators, these results can therefore be misleading.
The aim of the study is to test the effect of total flower abundance and flower colour composition surrounding pan-traps on pan-traps catches, and if there are species-specific preferences to white, blue or yellow pan-traps. In addition, the method of pan-trapping will be compared to hand-netting.
