The 19131AG SNP may be involved in different types of social behaviours: gazing- and physical behaviours. Furthermore, results of this study suggest that genotypic variation in the 19131AG SNP affected to whom dogs were more social to, the owner or a stranger. Therefore, it maybe more meaningful to categorize human-directed contact seeking behaviours as each type (gazing behaviour, physical behaviour, owner- or stranger directed) may imply different social implications. Finally, this study showed that exogenous oxytocin does not have the same effect on dogs with different genotypes, which is something future studies may wish to consider when examining the effects of oxytocin on social behaviour.
