Results

Cooperation test

  • Phase 1 (Training 1)
    • 3 Individuals (Edith, Elliot, Lelle) learned to pull one rope in order to receive the food reward
  • Phase 2 (Training 2)
    • 2 Individuals (Edith, Elliot) showed the onset of the asked behaviour (two ropes had to be pulled simultaneously in order to receive the reward) and an increasing success rate
  • Phase 3 (Test phase)
    • No cooperation occurred between the individuals

Behavioural observations

  • All gibbons spent significantly more time ‘out of arm's reach to everyone‘
  • All gibbons were scarcely involved in social interactions
Frequency of grooming behaviour between the individuals (occurrences per hour)
