For the past year I have been delving into the world of commercial poultry production, focusing particularly on commercial laying hen welfare. People frequently ask me "Why do you want to study chicken behaviour?". Well... I can proudly put my hands up and say that I find chickens to be amazing little creatures. As an ethologist, animal welfare is at the forefront of my interests; especially when it comes to commercial farming. This project fulfilled both of these passions.
