Olfactory sensitivity in CD-1 mice for the sperm-attractant odorant
bourgeonal and some of its structural analogues
CD-1 mouse
Can mice perceive aromatic aldehydes? And if they can, to what extent? These questions are answered in my thesis regarding seven different aromatic aldehydes, where six of them are analogues to my main odorant bourgeonal. Bourgeonal have been shown to be a sperm-attractant in humans, meaning that sperm cells move towards the substance when present. A study of bourgeonal and its analogues, including lyral a sperm-attractant in mice, might have a broad implications in the field of fertility and contraception in the future.
