Protein identification
Three novel SR-proteins in P. patens were discovered PpSR40, PpSR36 and PpSR39. The novel proteins all have two RRM (RNA recognition motif) domain and SR dipeptide repeats towards the c-terminal of the proteins.
Phylogenetic analysis
The phylogenetic analysis suggests that the proteins are the product of two gene duplications and subsequent sequence divergence.
Tissue-specific gene expression analysis
The expression of the PpSR40 and PpSR36 genes were upregulated in protonema tissue whereas the expression of PpSR39 was similar in the two tissues
Overexpression of PpSR40 in P. patens
The six PpSR40 overexpression lines vary in the degree of overexpression of PpSR40-transcript. Overexpression did not significantly alter the splicing patterns of PpSR40, PpSR36 and PpSR39.
