The aim of this thesis is to identify and analyze the heterogeneity of nutrient balances in agri-food chain at different spatial scales. The comprehensive study is performed at the municipality level in Sweden and district administration level in Pakistan. Firstly, the balance of nutrients at different spatial scales is estimated by combining different databases. Secondly, we analyze the geo-spatial distribution of these balances. Based on this analysis, we further investigate to what extent balancing the production/excretion cycles at the local (regional) level affect the nutrient balances at the global (country) level.
