Conclusions
- Studies about which resources felids need, and if this differs between species, are missing.
- Better communication and implementation of scientific research in the zoo community is needed.
- Elevated resources and areas as well as multiple hiding places are important to all felids.
- We must consider not only species differences but also individual preferences when designing enclosures.
In order to gather proper knowledge about the felids needs and preferences we need to replace the small one-institutional behavioural studies with multi-institutional studies with large number of individuals of all zoo kept felid species in future research.
