Conclusions

- Most of the results in the present study are in accordance with previous studies of African and Asian elephants resting behaviour.

- The results of present study support previous findings that the resting behaviour in elephants is affected by the physical environment as well as by social factors.

- The results suggest that the two elephant species resting behaviour is affected differently by the conditions under which they are kept, however this needs more research.

- And lastly, resting can be considered as a social behaviour among females and calves.
