Comparision

Resent genetic studies have demonstrated that mice have 1194 functional genes coding for olfactory receptors whereas humans have been reported to express only 390 olfactory receptor genes and New World monkeys, including spider monkeys, have 900 of such genes. When comparing numbers of receptor genes with detection threshold values obtained for aromatic aldehydes no clear correlation can be seen.
