Grazing versus mowing trial

The odds of finding indicators of good management increased over time in mowed plots compared to grazed plots. The odds of finding indicators of excess nitrogen and lack of management did not change over time in any treatment.

Figure 1. Log odds ratio comparing the effects of the management practice of grazing and mowing over time in eleven field trials, each with two independent blocks. The odds of indicators occurring in grazed or mowed plots are based on eight classification systems of indicator species. Error bars represent 95 % confidence intervals.

Mowing trial

The odds of finding indicators of good management, excess nitrogen and lack of management did not change over time in either the knife mower or grass trimmer treatments.

Figure 2. Log odds ratio comparing mowing techniques in Sättra. Knife mower or grass trimmer at different cutting heights were used, each treatment replicated five times. The odds of indicators occurring in plots mowed using knife mower or grass trimmer are based on eight classification systems of indicator species. Error bars represent 95 % confidence intervals.
