Activity

Pigs were less active in foam compared to control treatment overall (p=0.006). Yet the pigs in the foam treatment seemed to show peaks in activity at the onset of foam production and at the approximate time of the air pulse.

Escape attempts

There were no statistically significant difference in escape attempts between control and foam treatment. However, pigs performed twice as many escape attempts at the time when they were completely covered in foam, than at any other time in either control or foam treatment.

Vocalisations

Pigs were less vocal in foam compared to control treatment overall (p<0.001). Pigs vocalised the least with grunts at the onset of foam production during the foam treatment. The pigs uttered twice as many squeals and screams at the time when they were completely covered in foam, than at any other time during the foam treatment.
