The effects of feralization on behaviour and brain composition in the feral chickens of Kauai, Hawaii

Hi and welcome to my webpage on my MSc thesis!

My name is Rebecca and during the last academic year, I spent my time figuring out what happens when domesticated chickens escape and become feral. Will they become more like their wild counterparts? Do they manage to adapt to the feral environment, including adapting behaviour to avoid predators and compete with other species?

I studied the unique feral chicken population roaming around the island of Kauai, Hawaii, to find the answers to these questions. Browse through the pages on the left to find out more about my project!

A little more about myself:

I was born in Delft, the Netherlands, and after graduating high school I moved to Aberdeen, Scotland to get my BSc in Animal Behaviour. I then continued my studies in Linköping and started the MSc in Applied Ethology and Animal Biology. My interests vary from evolutionary biology and conservation science, to animal cognition and emotions.
