Discussion & Conclusion

The two main aims were satisfied:

  • It was possible to categorise the sounds based on the context in which they were performed
  • It was possible to compare with frequency and percentage the different numbers of occurrences of the sounds among contexts to find differences between the groups of studied lions

It was not possible to understand if the differences were due to living conditions and upbringing because of more than one bias, that could have influenced the behaviour of the individuals:

  • Lions were studied in different periods of the year
  • In Sweden the study was performed during the introduction of the new litter cubs into the pride
