Introduction

Lions (Panthera leo) are the only constant social felines, so it is important to focus on their communication, since it turns out to be one of the fundamental behaviours for their survival. One of the aspects of their communication that I went to deepen understanding of is their vocalisation. Since the number of lions in captivity is very high, it is necessary to understand if living conditions and upbringing can affect their vocalisations. Furthermore, although the lion is one of the most well-known animals, its vocalisations are poorly understood. Even the contexts in which the vocalisations are performed are not very clear.

The research on this field is important because more knowledge about lions can lead to a better understanding of this species so that:

  • It can survive in the wild
  • It can have a better life in captivity
